Dr Roberta Templeton
Co-Founder & Veterinarian

Dr. Roberta Templeton is a compassionate and experienced veterinarian with a strong focus on practical, high-quality care. She graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 2012 and has a special interest in surgery and ultrasound. Roberta is also certified in Veterinary Acupuncture through the College of Integrative Veterinary Therapies. Roberta grew up on a ranch in Southern Alberta, surrounded by purebred cattle and farmland. She was very active in 4-H as a young person, which helped shape her early passion for animal care and agriculture and inspired her to provide care to animals of all shapes and sizes. She has been deeply involved in volunteer work with Mission: Pawsible, a non-profit mobile clinic providing low-cost spay and neuter services to remote and rural communities along the West Coast of Vancouver Island and beyond. Roberta hopes that her role at Arrowsmith Animal Hospital will allow her to continue supporting this important outreach and improve access to veterinary services in underserved areas. At home, Roberta is a proud mother of two young boys and enjoys spending family time camping, hiking, biking and kayaking. She also finds balance through creative hobbies like knitting, pottery and quilting. Before having children, she and Jared backpacked across six continents, gaining experiences that still influence her perspective on life and care.

Dr Jared Watson
Co-Founder & Veterinarian
Dr Jared's journey into veterinary medicine began on a mixed grain and livestock farm in rural Manitoba, where he grew up watching the local veterinarian care for the cattle and support the farming community. His Family's farm was always home to loyal dogs and resilient barn cats, and those early experiences sparked a lifelong passion for animal care.
With his sights set on veterinary school, Jared began gaining hands-on experience with small animals at the Winnipeg Humane Society. He later attended the Western College of Veterinary Medicine, where he met his wife and fellow Arrowsmith Animal Hospital co-founder, Dr. Roberta Templeton.
Jared began his career in mixed animal practice, working primarily with dogs, cats, cattle, and horses. Roberta and Jared spent the early years of their careers alternating between work and travel, embracing new environments and expanding their veterinary and life perspectives along the way.
In 2018, Jared and Roberta made Vancouver Island their home. Since then, Jared has worked as a small animal locum veterinarian throughout the region, including in Nanaimo, the Comox Valley, Port Alberni, the Oceanside area, and Tofino. It became clear to them that the Alberni Valley and West Coast were underserved when it came to veterinary care. Founding Arrowsmith Animal Hospital is their way of helping to fill that gap and support this vibrant community.
Having grown up in a small town himself, he understands the importance of building strong, trusting relationships with clients and being a reliable part of the community.
Outside of work, you will find Jared is kept very busy by his two young sons, Seth and Cole. Jared is also an avid outdoorsman who enjoys fishing, camping, boating, and skiing.
